Lent

Today is Ash Wednesday and some of us participate in Lent.  According to Mary Fairchild she defined Lent as this:

"Lent is a time when many Christians prepare for Easter by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. The purpose is to set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ - his suffering and his sacrifice, his life, death, burial and resurrection."

I have observed Lent since I was in 3rd grade going to Catholic School.  It has been a great experience for me and I have shared the experience with my friends.  I feel that since Christ has giving us the ultimate sacrifice of himself, something like Lent, a 40 day fast is nothing in comparison to the sacrifice he gave to me.

There are many type of ways you can fast.  Dr. Jamal Bryant's church is going on a Financial Fast and you can check it out at empowermenttemple.org.  Some churches do the Daniel fast, which is an awesome fast, but I haven't tried it yet.  My church last year for 40 days fasted from 6am-6pm, (no food) and prayed every hour on the hour.  Some people choose to do more, for example, pray more, read their Bible, turn off the tv, and even fasting from facebook.  These are some examples of fasting people are doing.

For someone who has done so much, what is 40 days???
