I never liked to pray. What I mean is, I know what power prayer has. I know that when you pray you get answers. The problem I always had was I really didn’t want to hear the answers that I knew I would get. So, I prayed when I needed to, just not all the time. I prayed when people were sick. I prayed when I needed God to do something for me. I even prayed when I wanted God to change another person. I guess I only prayed when I thought it would benefit me. One thing I do know, prayer changes things, people, and situations. I realize now, I wasn’t ready to change. I may have been ready for my situation to change, but I wasn’t ready to change my ways.

Earlier this year my Pastor assigned me to the intercessory prayer ministry. With much resistance, I participated when I wanted to, on my own schedule. My Pastor then called a 21 day Daniel Fast. At this point in my life, I was ready for change. I was ready for what God had just for me. I went into the fast expecting something different. I came out with a new passion for ministry, and a love for communicating with my Lord.

I realized I have wasted a lot of precious time. However, I am glad that I serve a God who is able to redeem time. Today I serve on the intercessory prayer ministry with pride. I am grateful to God for being taken out of my comfort zone. I can now say that I have a praying spirit.

My purpose for this article is simply to help someone else who may be struggling with having a consistent prayer life. One thing I want you to know about me; I am transparent. What you see is what you get. I won’t write or say something I don’t mean. I still struggle some time especially when I’m sleepy…but I am in a place I’ve never been before. Prayer works!

Psalm 141:2

American Standard Version (ASV)

2 Let my prayer be set forth as incense before thee; The lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
